BEXAR COUNTY, Texas --

More than 40 acres of land has been burned Thursday afternoon in southwest Bexar County near Somerset.

Thirteen fire departments were called into action to battle the flames near the intersection of Loop 1604 and Prairie Road that also threatened several homes in the area.

Firefighters were able to contain the bulk of the fire, but it re-ignited about 4 p.m., just as residents were returning to their homes after the initial evacuations.

Investigators believe the fire started after somebody discarded a lit cigarette thrown out near Prairie Road.
