Long Island Firefighter Dies after EMS Call

He leaves behind a wife and two toddlers.

LONG ISLAND, NY -- An EMT with the Middle Island Fire Department collapsed and died Friday, July 4 after responding to an EMS call.

Rico Torres collapsed in his driveway after going home from the alarm. His colleagues' efforts to revive him proved fruitless.

He is survived by his wife and two young children.

Funeral Information

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home in Middle Island. A firefighter memorial service will be held at 8 p.m.

Graveside services and interment will be held Wednesday morning at Washington Memorial Park in Mount Sinai.
