SACRAMENTO, Calif. --

More than 200 National Guard soldiers reported to McClellan Air Park on Wednesday to receive training for fighting wildfires.

After the soldiers go through training and receive certification, they will assist CalFire first responders, who will train National Guard members on firefighting techniques.

The Guard is also preparing to use eight bulldozers to assist firefighters in cutting firelines.

Ground crews and bulldozers are in addition to the helicopters and other aviation support sent as part of an effort to combat wildfires in California.
