HALTOM CITY, Texas --

One man was killed in a fire that destroyed parts of a Haltom City apartment complex early Saturday morning.

Police are looking for Johnny Waller, 25, on arson charges in connection with the fire.

The blaze broke out at Springlake Apartments on Springlake Parkway at about 4:30 a.m.

Fire officials rescued several people with ladders from burning buildings at the complex.

Several of the apartments were damaged by fire, smoke and water. There were reports that some walls and part of a roof collapsed.

Fire officials said the body of 20-year-old Geovany Gustavo Guerra was found in the rubble of his apartment. Firefighters said they were not able to get to his apartment in time.

Sonia Hegwood, his mother, said her son was a very giving person who will be missed by many. She said she heard about the fire on the news.

Hegwood said she had just talked with him on Friday night.

"He said, 'I only want to tell you I love you,' and I told him the God bless him and put angels around him, and we went, and now I know the news, it's so ugly," she said.

All of the other residents have been accounted for. About a dozen apartments were damaged, displacing about 40 people.
