SOUTHFIELD, Mich. --

A Southfield teen has died after her home went up in flames early Sunday morning.

According to Southfield fire officials, a 13-year-old girl was rescued from a house fire at 21115 Dartmouth Drive in the area of Lahser Road and 11 Mile Road.

The first floor of the single dwelling, tri-level house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. They had to use a ladder to get to the second floor to rescue the girl, who had suffered smoke inhalation and had no pulse.

She was revived before she was taken to Beaumont Hospital and later transferred to the University of Michigan Health System, where she died Monday morning.

A female adult living in the house had already made it out uninjured, according to fire officials.

Officials have determined the fire was accidental and appears to have started in the utility room in the lower level of the home.
