California Firefighter Injured Battling Wildfire

Firefighter Scott Herzog suffered first-degree burns to his lips and cheeks when he took a hot blast of air to the face while fighting the fire.

MALIBU, Calif. --

A local Amador-El Dorado firefighter was injured Saturday while battling the Corral fire near Malibu Saturday, authorities said.

Firefighter Scott Herzog suffered first-degree burns to his lips and cheeks when he took a hot blast of air to the face while fighting the fire.

Herzog was treated at Santa Monica Hospital and transferred to the Sherman Oaks burn center for further evaluation. The burn incident is currently under investigation.

Herzog is a member of the Amador-El Dorado engine company from Pilot Hill fire station, which was part of a five engine strike team that was pre-positioned in the Ventura area.
