Charlotte Firefighter Dies in Station

Charlotte, NC, firefighters are mourning the loss of 17-year veteran Kent Furman Long, who died while exercising at the station on Friday.

Charlotte, NC, firefighters are mourning the loss of 17-year veteran Kent Furman Long, who died while exercising at the station on Friday.

About 6 P.M. on Friday, Long, 44, collapsed at Charlotte Fire Station 23. On-duty firefighters began immediate resuscitation efforts and transported him to Carolinas Medical Center where he later died.

Long leaves behind a wife and three children.

"The Charlotte Fire Department family is grateful for the support that has already been extended to us as we deal with this tragic event" a department press release stated.

Funeral Details:

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:15 AM on Monday, Dec. 4, Hickory Grove Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM in the church sanctuary. Interment will follow at Evergreen City Cemetery.
