Six days after being severely burned battling a house fire an Atlanta firefighter died of his injuries early Wednesday morning.

Firefighter Steven Solomon passed away in Grady Memorial Hospital's Burn Unit.

"We have truly lost a hero tonight and one of Atlanta's bravest firefighters," said Atlanta Fire Chief Dennis L. Rubin.

Solomon, married with four children, was injured fighting a house fire in northwest Atlanta on Thanksgiving evening.

Investigators determined the fire was started by an unattended candle left by homeless people staying in the unoccupied house.

Solomon had been with the Atlanta Fire Department for approximately four months. He transferred to the department after nearly six years with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department.
