HOUMA, La. --

More than a dozen families lost their homes and two firefighters were injured during an apartment fire in Houma over the weekend.

The four-alarm blaze gutted the building early Sunday afternoon. Crews fought the fire for more than six hours, with help from three departments.

Fire officials said the architecture of the building allowed the fire to spread quickly.

The blaze is under investigation, but arson isn't suspected. The Red Cross helped the victims find shelter.
