SAN DIEGO --

The burned body of a man was found over the weekend near the Mexican border.

The man's body was found Sunday near state Route 94 in eastern part of the county, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. No other details were released.

Volunteers who found the body had been searching for a missing 37-year-old Mexican man from Chiapas. The victim's brother told the San Diego Union-Tribune his brother was crossing the border near Tecate with a group of Mexicans. The searchers said they believe the man died in the Harris Fire.

If authorities determine he died in the massive wildfire, he would be the eighth person killed in the wildfires that swept through the county two weeks ago. Four of those victims are believed to be Mexican immigrants who were caught by the Harris Fire while crossing the border.
