Fire gutted a barbecue restaurant on the city's Northeast Side late Monday.
When firefighters arrived at the Barbecue Station in the 1600 block of Northeast Loop 410 a little before midnight, they found flames shooting through the roof of the building.
Firefighters said that it's possible that heat from a smoker that was cooking some brisket caught some wood on fire, which damaged an office, a storage room and a refrigeration unit.
But the restaurant's owner, Bobby Peacock, was not convinced about the cause.
"It's never happened before," Peacock said. "And we really can't pinpoint a cause."
No one was injured.
Damage was estimated at $30,000.
Peacock said that he hopes to reopen his restaurant by Friday.
Damage was estimated at $30,000.
The restaurant is expected to open late Tuesday morning.
