Newborn Dropped Off at Florida Firehouse

Sept. 11, 2006
The Safe Harbor Law allows parents to leave their children at a hospital or fire station.

An unidentified woman abandoned her day-old child at a local safe house Friday afternoon.

She dropped off the child at the Lake Park Firehouse, under the Safe Harbor Law.

The law allows parents to leave their children at a hospital or fire station, without fear of prosecution.

The parents are not questioned or charged as long as the child is dropped off within three days of birth.

The baby girl is said to be in good condition at St. Mary's Medical Center.
