A hillside brush fire near the San Diego Wild Animal Park forced precautionary evacuations Thursday at the San Pasqual-area area zoological tourist attraction.

The non-injury blaze began spreading shortly before 3 p.m. off Old Battlefield and Zoo roads, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The flames briefly threatened several homes until ground crews and personnel aboard an air tanker and two emergency-services helicopters were able to gain the upper hand, SDFRD information officer Maurice Luque said.

Firefighters had the roughly 10-acre burn area contained within an hour.

No structural damage was reported.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
