California Firefighter Accused Of Arson

A volunteer firefighter for the Diamond Springs, El Dorado Fire Protection District has been arrested for allegedly starting multiple fires in El Dorado County.

Benjamin Cunha, 25, was taken into custody Sunday by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Amador-El Dorado unit.

Cunha is charged with felony arson.

Investigators believe that Cunha is responsible for starting several wildland fires that threatened land, property and lives.

According to authorities, the fires Cunha is suspected of starting all occurred within the response area of the Diamond Springs, El Dorado Fire Protection District.

Cunha has previously worked as a seasonal firefighter for Calfire and as an apprentice firefighter for El Dorado County.
