Officials with the Stratton Ridge Dow Chemical Company plant in F.M. 523 near County Road 226 said the fire started in a pump at about 4:35 a.m.

The company used a siren to alert the community to a fire but a shelter-in-place was not ordered. Residents were told not to drive down the road leading to the plant.

The blaze was extinguished by the plant's fire department with help from the Brazoria County Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
