Houston Bus Destroyed by Fire

A small METRO bus was destroyed by fire in northeast Harris County early Tuesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The bus driver noticed smoke coming from under the hood on Beltway 8 near Mesa Drive at about 12:45 a.m.

The driver stopped, got out of the bus and called for help. The bus was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

The bus was used to transport handicapped passengers.

No passengers were on the bus at the time of the fire.

METRO police said the fire was caused by a mechanical error.
