Three caskets were pulled out of the burning building.

The owner of a funeral home on Indianapolis' east side that has become a symbol of neighborhood revitalization said he plans to rebuild after a devastating fire on Saturday.

The blaze broke out at the Williams and Bluitt Funeral Home on Dr. Andrew J. Brown Avenue at about midnight.

Firefighters pulled three caskets from the building before the two-alarm fire caused the roof to collapse.

Neighbors stepped in to help the owner and families, whose loved ones remains were inside the building.

"You had neighbors who came out to help the families, the owner and firefighters with all the comfort that we needed," said Indianapolis fire Capt. Gregg Harris.

Damage to the funeral home was estimated at $500,000. No one was injured.
