North Carolina Firefighter Struck, Killed

The firefighter was marking fire hydrants when his rig was struck by another vehicle.

A North Carolina firefighter was struck and killed Friday morning in Bladen County wihile performing hydrant maintenance.

Russell Allen Jr., of the Tar Heel Fire District, was performing hydrant maitenance when he was killed, according to North Carolina firefighters.

Allen was marking hydrants in the Tar Heel Fire District and was standing at the fire department vehicle. The rig was struck by a private vehicle, and he was knocked underneath. He was pronounced dead at the scene, reports indicate.
