Fire Dims Lights in New York

A transformer fire on the Lower East Side last night injured two Con Edison workers and led the utility to reduce voltage in the area by 8 percent.

August 4, 2005 -- A transformer fire on the Lower East Side last night injured two Con Edison workers and led the utility to reduce voltage in the area by 8 percent, a utility spokeswoman said.

The blaze broke out shortly after 7 p.m. at Avenue B and East Third Street. The workers were in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital. No customers lost power.
