RESTON, Va. (AP) -- Investigators on Monday continued investigating a deadly apartment fire.

The fire broke out Sunday in a three-story apartment building on Northgate Square. One man died and four others were taken to local hospitals suffering from minor injuries.

Fire officials said many of the residents were rescued from the burning building by climbing out of their windows and down firefighter ladders. Some others are said to have jumped because the stairway was blocked by heavy smoke.

Damage to the apartment building has been estimated at $220,000.

The identity of the man who died in the blaze has not been released.
