Fire Rips Through Lumber Yard in New York

A fire at a lumber yard in Rockland County kept firefighters busy this morning.

(New York-WABC, June 28, 2005) -- A fire at a lumber yard in Rockland County kept firefighters busy this morning.

Officials say heavy flames and smoke tore through Dykes Lumber at 284 Route 59 just after midnight.

The blaze is believed to have started in a storage building, quickly spreading to the wood stored at the site.

It took hours to put out most of the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No firefighters were injured.

The Dykes company operates eight lumber facilities, including the fire location. The company was founded in 1909 in Manhattan.
