PHOENIX (AP) -- A wildfire in the Tonto National Forest has burned about 6,000 acres west of Bartlett Lake, officials said Monday morning.

The Bart fire was not threatening any structures, said Tonto National Forest spokesman Dave Killebrew.

The closest structures were several miles away at recreation sites on Bartlett Lake and at KA Ranch, a nearby private ranch.

Campers were asked to leave the area, but there was no formal evacuation, Killebrew said.

The fire was burning desert scrub and chaparral and was out of control early Monday with no estimate for full containment.

The Bart fire was burning near the St. Clair fire, which started Friday and was contained Sunday at 1,920 acres.

About 100 firefighters have been assigned to the Bart fire. The cause of the blaze is being investigated by U.S. Forest Service law enforcement personnel.
