Kansas City firefighters pulled an unconscious man from a burning house late Wednesday.

Two women were passing by a home in the 7900 block of Holmes Road after 11 p.m. and saw smoke coming from a residence. They alerted neighbors, who called 911.

When fire crews arrived, they noticed a glow coming from a basement window. Firefighters began battling the flames and conducted a search of the house. Nearly the entire home was filled with smoke.

"They discovered the victim on the dining room floor," said fire department spokesman Germane Friends. "They carried him outside and began doing CPR."

The man was described as an older adult and was the only resident in the house at the time. He was taken to a hospital. His condition was not available this morning.

The fire extended to a second story, Friends said. Investigators were still trying to determine what caused the blaze. No damage estimate was available this morning.
