Dammeron, Utah Fire is 35 Percent Contained

The Dammeron fire north of St. George burned east into thick timber in the Dixie National Forest on Wednesday, but was 35 percent contained.

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- The Dammeron fire north of St. George burned east into thick timber in the Dixie National Forest on Wednesday, but was 35 percent contained.

Five hundred firefighters battled the blaze, which a new estimate put at 8,700 acres. It previously had been estimated at 9,100 acres.

The blaze was started by lightning Friday night. It is not threatening any homes.

Elsewhere, fire officials reported the 1,885-acre Frisco fire 10 miles northwest of Milford was 80 percent contained and full containment was expected Friday.

The 25-acre Straight fire three miles southwest of New Harmony was contained Wednesday.
