June 14, 2005 -- Steve Cassidy yesterday was re-elected president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association.

Cassidy beat challenger Thomas DaPalma, 55 percent to 45 percent.

"Quite obviously, I'm happy and proud that I have got the confidence of this fine body of men and women," Cassidy said.

"With tragedies, losses of life, cutbacks and closures of firehouses, it has not been easy on our members, but hopefully, the public we seek to protect will make saner minds in the city administration understand the conditions our members are working under."

Also elected were: Vice President James Slevin; Treasurer Robert Straub; recording secretary Joseph Miccio; Bronx trustee Edward Brown; Brooklyn trustee John Kelly; Manhattan trustee Daniel Murphy; Queens trustee Stephen Humenesky; Staten Island trustee Donald Ruland; health and safety officer William Romaka.
