Virginia Fire Chief Suspected of Embezzling

JAMES CITY -- Tuesday was supposed to be the day Richard Miller officially retired as the county fire chief.

Instead, it will be remembered as the date news broke of a State Police investigation that he allegedly embezzled money from an account used for donations to the fire department.

He was fired two weeks ago by county administrator Sandy Wanner, who only told the Board of Supervisors in a closed session on May 24 and said nothing publicly until asked this week.

Sources put the amount of missing funds as high as $168,000. Another said at least $75,000 was missing, but the amount
