WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- A police officer, his wife and their 10-year-old son who were found dead in their home after a weekend fire died from gunshot wounds, the medical examiner's office said Monday.

The bodies of Officer Michael Waleskowski, his wife Lorna and 10-year-old Hayden were found inside their Waterford Township home about 6:45 a.m. Sunday.

When authorities arrived, the house was engulfed in flames, but Art McNamara, an investigator in the Oakland County medical examiner's office, said all three died from gunshot wounds and that police were treating the case as a murder-suicide.

A woman who answered the telephone Monday afternoon at the Waterford Township police department said no one was available to comment.

The bodies were found in bedrooms on the upper floor of the two-story house where the Waleskowskis had lived for at least 10 years.

Waleskowski was a five-year veteran of the police department in Waterford Township, about 35 miles northwest of Detroit.
