Tom Carr First Montgomery County Maryland Fire Chief

Legislation creates new county fire chief position.
Rockville, Maryland - County Executive Doug Duncan recently announced that he has named Thomas West Carr, Jr. to the position of Fire Chief, for the Montgomery County (Maryland) Fire and Rescue Service. He was unanimously confirmed by the County Council as Montgomery County Fire Chief. The position becomes effective January 1, 2005.

Chief Tom Carr, who has over 30 years of fire and rescue experience, began his public safety career in Montgomery County in 1978 as a paramedic/fire fighter and has risen through the ranks to Assistant Chief. He had previously volunteered in Montgomery County with the Bethesda-Chase Chase Rescue Squad where he is a Life Member.

In May 2003 he was appointed by Montgomery County Executive Douglas Duncan as Chief for the Division of Fire and Rescue Services (DFRS) and at the time was also unanimously approved by the County Council. A year later, in 2004 the County Council passed new legislation reshaping the County
