CHESNEE, S.C. --

It took firefighters from six departments most of the morning Wednesday to extinguish a fire in downtown Chesnee.

The fire started at Twin States Auto Supply on South Alabama Avenue. Firefighters were called out at about 1:30 a.m.

The store is located in a block with other businesses. Besides the auto supply store, a beauty shop was also damaged

Chesnee Community Fire Chief Kevin Gregory said, "All of the buildings are combined together. There are holes in the fire walls. The buildings are not up to code, so it makes fire fighting in these buildings real, real difficult."

South Alabama Avenue was closed from East Manning Street to State Highway 11 while firefighters fought the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
