Funeral arrangments are now set for a Dixie Suburban firefighter who died in the line of duty on Wednesday.
Shively, KY -- Funeral arrangments are now set for a Dixie Suburban firefighter who died in the line of duty on Wednesday.

Sgt. Andre Michael Ellis, who joined the department in 1999, died while working on a training exercise for future volunteers.

Visitiation for Sgt. Ellis will be from 2:00pm to 4:00pm Monday at Rodgers-Awkard Funeral home 951 South Preston.

The funeral will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday at St. Stephens Baptist Church at 1008 S. 15th Street.

"He was one of the most dedicated men we had in the Department," Chief Tim Robbins told WHAS News. "He will be missed."

Sgt. Ellis was a construction worker by trade. He had risen in the ranks of Dixie Suburban and had become its chief training officer for new volunteers.

He collapsed on Wednesday during the check of a search and rescue course in Shively.
