Pennsylvania Assistant Chief Collapses After Call

Newmanstown VFD Assist. Chief McNally suffered an apparent heart attack returning to the station after responding to a MVA.
Lewis R. "Lewie" McNally, 42, Newmanstown, died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, after responding to a fire call. He was the husband of Rosalind L. Baker McNally, with whom he celebrated a 22nd wedding anniversary on June 24.

Born in Houston, Texas, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Grace Buffenmyer McNally. He was assistant fire chief of the Newmanstown Fire Co. and was a trained emergency-management technician, formerly with Medic 4 Unit of Ephrata, and Newmanstown Ambulance. He was the owner of Shady Oaks Campground of Newmanstown. He was a member of Lancaster Evangelical Free Church of Lititz and Lincoln, Denver, Richland and Neffsville fire companies. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and helping restore a 1947 Willies Jeep with his son, David.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children David A. McNally, Tammy S. McNally and Jonathan W. McNally, all at home; sister Susan, wife of Steven Martzall of Reinholds; and brother Fred, husband of Barbara McNally of Stroudsburg. He was preceded in death by brother Wayne D. McNally.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, 419 Pierson Road, Lititz, with a viewing at 9, and from 6-8 p.m. tomorrow. Interment will be in Voganville Union Cemetery, West Earl Township. Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, is handling the arrangements.
