Girl, 2, Dies in Moberly, Missouri Fire

A 2-year-old girl died Monday morning in a fire at her home, police said.
MOBERLY, Mo. (AP) -- A 2-year-old girl died Monday morning in a fire at her home, police said.

The mother of Selena Maree Springer and two other children escaped.

Police said the mother, Virginia Springer, 24, saw smoke after being awakened by her son, Timmy Chapman Jr., 5. She sent Timmy and another child, Toby Chapman, 4, outside, and tried to put out the fire with a blanket. She was driven back by flames while trying to reach her daughter.

Virginia Springer was treated at a hospital for burns and smoke inhalation. The other children were not injured.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
