HIALEAH -- The baby was in the crib next to her mother's bed. Four older children were sound asleep. But their 43-year-old mother was wide awake and carrying out a deadly plan, police said.

First, Marie Auguste locked her 6-month-old daughter in the room they shared, police said. Then she went inside the living room and spilled gasoline along the walls, on the sofa and on the floor. She even got some on herself, on her clothes and her wig. She lit a flame, police said, then headed out the back door, her own body also on fire.
