At least one person is dead and a police officer has been injured in a shooting in Michigan City.

NewsCenter 16 has learned from authorities that a man stabbed a woman. The woman and her daughter ran to a nearby hospital. Officers were called to the scene of the stabbing, a home near the intersection of Warren and Ohio, where the man barricaded himself inside the house.

Sometime after officers arrived at the scene, an officer was struck in the face by a bullet. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital but he is not thought to be seriously injured.

Police have confirmed that at least one person is dead, but they have not identified the victim.

WEFM Radio reporter Ron Miller was on the scene. He reports that the house is on fire and surrounded by police. The street has been blocked off while firefighters attempt to extinguish the flames. Police say once the fire is put out, the SWAT team will enter the home to find the suspect.

The home is on the northwest side of Michigan City.
