A two-alarm blaze in the city had Buffalo firefighters battling the flames for most of the night.

The fire broke out at a two-story brick building just after Midnight near Howard and Lewis Streets on the city's east side.

The intense fire caused several walls to collapse.

It took several hours to get the blaze under control, and firefighters are still monitoring the scene Saturday morning for any hot spots.

Officials say the building was a former slaughter house. Investigators do not believe anyone was inside when it started.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
