PHILADELPHIA (KYW) A 40-year-old Philadelphia firefighter collapsed and died Tuesday morning while fighting a house fire in the Port Richmond section of the city.

Investigative Reporter Walt Hunter was told James Allen climbed a ladder to the roof of a home on the 2900 block of Aramingo Avenue in order to break upper floor windows and release the smoke. He collapsed soon after and was rushed to an area hospital.

Hospital officials could not revive him announcing he had suffered a heart attack.

Hunter reports Allen followed his father's footsteps by becoming a firefighter. He is survived by his wife and children.

Officials say the one-room fire was sparked by a seven-year-old with a history of playing with matches.
