A Connellsville Township firefighter died in the line of duty Tuesday after suffering a heart attack while returning from a fire call.
Funeral services for William F. Ramsey, 42, of Connellsville were announced Tuesday evening and will include a firefighter memorial service and a procession of fire trucks from departments throughout the county. Ramsey suffered a heart attack on his way back from an unknown fire Tuesday near Rob Roy's, according to reports.
Ramsey is survived by his wife of 15 years, Rita Livingston Ramsey, a daughter, Annabeth Grey Ramsey, and his mother, Barbara Reynolds Ramsey.
Guy Napolillo, who had worked with Ramsey for the past three years as part of the county's HAZMAT team, said Ramsey was always available to help when needed. Napolillo, who is a member for neighboring New Haven Hose Co., said Ramsey was one of those guys everyone always saw, and news of his passing came as a great shock.
"This is one of those things you just don't expect, especially someone of his age," he said.
Napolillo said the HAZMAT team is working to coordinate memorial arrangements and is finalizing plans to help Ramsey's family.
Visitation will be held at the Brooks Funeral Home, 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be held at the funeral home Friday at 11 a.m.
The Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Fayette County HAZMAT team will hold a memorial service Thursday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
A committal service and firemen's honor guard service and entombment will take place at Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.
A memorial fund has been set up at PNC Bank in Connellsville, and donations can be sent to Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Department William F. Ramsey Memorial Fund, in care of Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Department, 905 Fireman Lane, Connellsville, Pa. 15425.
