    Wildfire Season Begins Today, California Hires 1,500 Seasonal firefighters

    The official declaration from the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection signals the hiring of 1,500 seasonal firefighters and heightened vigilance in all areas of the state except in the extreme north. Fire permits may be suspended in some local fire districts.
