Southbound Interstate 95 in northern Miami-Dade County was closed this morning after a tanker truck overturned, spilling fuel onto the road.

The truck overturned at Miami Gardens Drive about 9:20 a.m., blocking all southbound lanes of traffic back to Hallandale. Northbound traffic was backed up to the Golden Glades interchange because of drivers looking at the wreck.

Early reports from the scene were that southbound I-95 could be closed for as long as eight hours while the fuel is cleaned up.

Police are urging motorists to take alternae routes such as Florida's Turnpike, U.S. 441 or U.S. 1.
