Firefighters Prepare for War on Terror at Firehouse World

Firehouse World will assist in preparing fire and emergency service professionals on public health emergency preparedness, tackling issues of biological, chemical and nuclear terrorism with educational programs led by renowned experts.
San Diego, CA -- Cygnus Expositions, a division of business-to-business media communications leader Cygnus Business Media, is ramping up for one of the nation's most important fire and emergency service expositions launching this February 18-20 at the San Diego Convention Center, San Diego, California. Firehouse World will assist in preparing fire and emergency service professionals on public health emergency preparedness, tackling issues of biological, chemical and nuclear terrorism with educational programs led by renowned experts including Acting Assistant Secretary for the Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness (OPHP) Jerome Hauer.

"America is counting on our First Responders to be trained and knowledgeable should another act of terrorism descend our shores," says Firehouse World Show Director Robert Brice. "Firehouse World will educate and train thousands on best practices and leading standards of response."

Fire and EMS professionals will be briefed by FBI Special Agent Christopher Combs and Jim Schwartz, assistant Fire Chief for Arlington County, Virginia on the attack at the Pentagon with a review of the after action report. FDNY Chief Jay Jonas will also outline a special program relating his own harrowing experience trapped in the collapse of the World Trade Center.

Other briefings include The Vulnerability of America: Assessing and Developing your Community's Response to Terrorism, moderated by Dr. William Jenaway who serves on the Gilmore Commission currently assessing America's readiness to respond. Dr. Jenaway will provide an overview of tools developed to assist fire departments, reviewing types of equipment and response needed to deal with specific acts of terror.

"Thousands of West Coast fire chiefs, captains, lieutenants and incident commanders will come together at this year's Firehouse World, all intent on bringing back enhanced tactics and strategies to their Company on issues of terrorism and other expanded incidents including train derailments, earthquakes and school shootings," adds Brice. "Today, more than ever, managing a multi-casualty incident (MCI) is treated in terms of when and not if."
