Settlement Likely In Deadly Jail Fire

Mitchell County is ready to settle civil claims from May's deadly jail fire with a deal in which survivors and relatives of victims would share a $2 million award -- the maximum the county could pay. The tentative agreement, which one relative said has been initially OK'd by both sides, is scheduled for review and possible approval in a hearing Thursday morning in Mitchell County Superior Court.
