One Canadian firefighter was killed and another injured Thursday in an explosion.

The fire broke out about 4 a.m. PT at Sperlich Log Construction in Enderby, about 35 kilometres north of Vernon in British Columbia.

About two dozen firefighters responded, and they thought the fire in the large timber-framed building was under control when the explosion occurred, according to CBC News.

The explosion reportedly ripped through a shed, killing one firefighter, whose identity has not yet been released, and injuring another, who was treated at the scene.

The investigation continues.
