A member of the Corinth Volunteer Fire Department was en route to work when he rescued two brothers from a burning house early Wednesday morning.
Lt. Chris Brogden noticed smoke coming from the home at 4698 U.S. Highway 15 round 6 a.m.and quickly called 911 before running around the structure, according to WRAL-TV.
A woman told Brogden where the two men were sleeping inside the home.
He broke a bedroom window with a piece of wood and pulled one of the men to safety then banged on the other brother's window. He was able to escape on his own.
"Had it not been for Mr. Brogden's quick actions, the (men) inside could easily have perished in the fire," Granville County Emergency Management Coordinator Doug Logan said.
Crews from the Providence, Corinth and Oxford fire departments responded to the fire and had it under control within 20 minutes.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
