LAWRENCE COUNTY, Pa. --
Firefighters in New Wilmington, Lawrence County said they're in shock after a fatal accident involving a fellow firefighter's father.
Chief Dick Wilson said they were called to a fatal accident on Wednesday morning.
Wilson said the victim's son, who responded to the accident, learned of his father's death at the scene.
"He was there responding. He saw the car and recognized it. We grabbed him and kept him away and brought him back to the station," said Wilson.
Investigators believe Howard McEwen hit a guardrail and slid several feet before hitting a tree. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Wilson said McEwen was on his way to a family member's funeral when he was killed in the accident.
