Pa. Fire Kills Mother and Child, Girl Jumps to Escape

A mother and child were killed early Friday in a house fire in Lawrence County.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A mother and child were killed early Friday in a house fire in Lawrence County, firefighters said.

The fire started at about 1:30 a.m. along Moravia Street in Shenango Township.

The victims were found on the second floor. Their names were not available.

An 11-year-old girl jumped from a second-floor window to escape. She was taken to University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Mercy with second-degree burns and injuries from the fall.

The cause of the fire was not determined.
