A Kenova firefighter is recovering after falling through the roof of a burning home Tuesday night.

The firefighter was attempting to ventilate the roof of a house on Chestnut Street when a spot gave, sending part of his body through the hole, Lt. Joe Rimer told WOWK-TV.

He was able to remove himself and sustained a small burn to his lip.

"That's the only injury he sustained so he's pretty lucky," Rimer said.

Officials told the news station that it was difficult to maneuver around the inside of the house due to a large amount of clutter.

Several pets were rescued and a woman who was able to escape the fire was transported to a hospital for smoke inhalation.
