Michigan Firefighter Stricken While Responding

Jerry Wetherell was responding to a snowmobile wreck when he collapsed.

A Michigan firefighter collapsed and died on Feb. 28 while responding to a snowmobile crash.

Gerald "Jerry" R. Wetherell, 74, was a firefighter/EMT with Denton Township Fire Department.

On Tuesday, he and another firefighter were in a fire department vehicle towing their snowmobile to a crash when he became unresponsive, according to the USFA.

Wetherell was rushed to a local hosptial in West Branch, MI where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death is pending.

He had been with the fire service for 35 years.
