Crews Battle Fire at South Dakota State University

Brookings firefighters responded to a fire at a livestock building owned by South Dakota State University early Friday morning.

Brookings firefighters responded to a fire at a livestock building owned by South Dakota State University early Friday morning.

Crews responded to the fire at the building in the north section of the college's campus around 4:30 a.m., according to KDLT-TV

The building from the 1950s was filled with 20 tons of hay and was engulfed in flames when crews arrived at the scene.

Firefighters removed the bales of hay from the structure and all of the cattle inside the building were removed safely.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries when he slipped and fell.

A tractor, pickup truck, and feeder wagon inside the building were all destroyed.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
