An Orange County Fire Authority battalion chief was hospitalized Wednesday morning after his department SUV collided with another while he was responding to an earlier crash.
The unidentified battalion chief was initially taken to UC Irvine Medical Center as a trauma patient, but fire officials said he only sustained "minor scrapes and bruises" and was expected to be released later in the day, according to The Orange County Register.
The driver of the other car was also taken to UC Irvine for treatment of minor injuries.
The battalion chief was en route to a three-vehicle crash in Brea around 10 a.m. and was following other emergency vehicles through an intersection when the vehicle struck the front side of his Suburban, which had it lights and siren activated.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
