St. Paul firefighters rescued a woman from the window on the third floor of a burning home Wednesday night.
Crews responded to the multi-family home at 829 Portland Avenue around 11:25 p.m. and found the rear of the structure on fire, according to a department news release.
Firefighters quickly set up two ladders to reach the victim who was waiting at the third-floor window and led her down to safety.
One of the firefighters gave the woman his air mask so that she could breathe easier.
She was evaluated by paramedics at the scene but declined to be transported to a hospital.
One firefighter suffered some difficulty breathing while battling the blaze and was taken to the hospital.
Officials say the woman was asleep at the time of the fire and was awaken by voices outside.
Firefighters at the rear of the structure were able to extinguish the flames before it spread to the attic.
The third floor suffered fire damage while the first and second floors sustained water and smoke damage.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
